Although popularly known as the "Nevogilde Romanesque Aqueduct," it is important to emphasize that this notable engineering work does not date back, as the name might suggest, to medieval or Roman periods. In fact, its construction is much more recent, predating the 19th century.
The main function of this aqueduct was to ensure the transport of essential water to the Casa de Lagoas, playing a crucial role in the supply of this property. This aspect reveals the pragmatism and functionality of its design, characteristics common to infrastructure supporting rural and urban life of the time.
With an extension of approximately one hundred meters, the Nevogilde aqueduct stands out for its robust and functional construction, characteristics that have ensured its preservation over the years. The way it rises above the Mesio River and extends across the surrounding agricultural lands gives it a harmonious integration into the landscape.
This aqueduct is notable for its good state of conservation and its uniqueness in the municipality of Lousada, being the only one of such a dimension in the region. Its presence is a testament to the ability to adapt engineering to the needs of daily life, remaining a distinctive element in the local heritage.
