The Terrugem Bullring is located in Bairro Santo António, an area within the town of Terrugem. This town, part of the municipality of Elvas, is situated in the heart of Alentejo, a region characterized by its vast landscapes and a tranquil pace of life. Its central location in Terrugem facilitates its identification as a community landmark.
Inaugurated in 1977, this bullring is a remarkable example of the local community's effort and dedication. Its construction was spearheaded by an active committee of residents who, simultaneously, founded the Associação de Beneficência Amigos da Terrugem (ABAT). The venue thus represents a testament to the organizational capacity and unity of the people of Terrugem in favor of a project that became a central meeting point and celebration of their roots.
Currently, the Terrugem Bullring continues to be an important venue for bullfighting culture in the region. The venue regularly hosts shows that keep alive the art of Portuguese bullfighting, attracting a loyal audience and visitors. With the presence of cavaleiros and forcados groups, these initiatives contribute to the preservation and transmission of an important component of national traditions, reinforcing the bullring's role as a link between Terrugem's past and present.
