Built in 1275, it was one of the first Franciscan convents in Portugal.
The church combines Renaissance, Mannerist, and Baroque styles, visible in details such as the altarpieces, mural paintings, and tiles.
With the end of religious orders, the convent was transformed into barracks at the beginning of the 20th century, ceasing to be used for religious purposes.
Part of the convent was adapted for the Robinson Factory, an important cork factory, whose chimneys are now symbols of the city.
The complex is protected as a Property of Public Interest, and there are recovery projects for cultural and tourist use.
