Near the village of Escusa, in São Salvador da Aramenha, in the municipality of Marvão, within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.
Classified as a National Monument, these are ancient structures used in the production of lime, linked to the Roman history of the region.
The site includes 19 lime kilns, where limestone from the mountains was transformed into lime, a material used in construction.
The activity in these kilns was fundamental to the local economy until the 20th century. The lime produced here coated many houses in the Alentejo region.
The site is deactivated, but it is possible to visit freely and appreciate the ruins and the natural surroundings.
