This site includes an ancient bridge and parts of a very old road. Both the bridge and the road were built by the Romans many, many years ago. They are examples of what life and travel were like in the region during that period.
The bridge, today known as Ponte de Nossa Senhora da Graça, is a solid structure made of stone. It is a great example of Roman engineering, built to last. It crosses a small watercourse and has maintained its form over centuries, demonstrating the skill of ancient builders.
Near the bridge, you can still see parts of the ancient Roman road. These are paved sections or show indications of their original layout. These roads were essential for connecting cities and regions in the Roman Empire, allowing the movement of people, goods, and military personnel.
Visiting this site is a way to connect the present with the Roman past. The bridge and the remains of the road are important pieces of the region's heritage, testifying to the Roman presence and how they shaped the landscape and communication routes that, in some cases, we still use today. It is a place that tells a story of almost two thousand years.
