The Marvão Sculpture Park is located in the Monte Novo area, in the parish of São Salvador da Aramenha, within the municipality of Marvão. It is situated in the heart of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, a setting that provides it with a distinctive ambiance and a predominantly natural and preserved landscape.
This location allows art to meet and dialogue with a mountainous landscape, characterized by its tranquility and the presence of striking natural elements.
This park presents itself as a space where art and nature intertwine harmoniously. Conceived as a Land-Art project by sculptor Maria Leal da Costa, the site explores the interconnection between artistic creations and the surrounding natural environment. The artist's works, often in stone, integrate into the landscape, inviting an experience of contemplation and discovery.
The project reflects Maria Leal da Costa's artistic journey, as she has been developing this vision of dialogue between sculpture and the natural scenery of Alentejo, creating a destination where artistic expression gains a singular dimension outdoors.
The park spans approximately two hectares, offering a path designed for pedestrian exploration. It is divided into three interconnected sectors, planned to guide visitors on a walk that is, in itself, part of the artistic experience. Along the route, there are four stopping points or meditation stations, where the alliance between sculpture, landscape, and poetry fully manifests, inviting reflection.
The walk through the park unfolds in an ascensional direction, suggesting a progressive immersion in contemplation. The poetic texts by Carlos Baptista and Maria Helena Marques complement the sculptures and the view, enriching the artistic and sensory experience.
The location of the Marvão Sculpture Park within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park provides an environment of silence and tranquility. The absence of pollution contributes to the clarity of the air and the beauty of the sky, especially at night, when the stars are revealed with great sharpness.
The richness of the local wild fauna and flora complements the visit, allowing for the observation of nature in all its splendor, with a diversity of sounds, colors, and aromas that intensify the connection with the territory.
