Situated in the heart of Salavessa, this fountain stands beside a small square paved with granite cubes. Surrounded by white-washed houses with touches of yellow, it blends into the typical landscape of the municipality of Nisa.
Access is on foot, via rustic cobblestone paths, revealing a peaceful nook where the sound of water stands out in contrast to the silence of the village.
Dated 1966, as indicated by the inscription “CMN 1966” on its main face, this fountain was installed by the Municipality of Nisa as part of a program to improve rural water supply networks. Over the decades, it has remained in operation, serving residents and travelers.
The use of granite, an abundant stone in the region, reinforces the structure's durability and testifies to the local tradition in exploiting this material.
Erected in the shape of a column, the fountain features a simple metal spout that pours water into a circular basin, flanked by two lateral basins that functioned as auxiliary tanks. The ensemble rests on a semicircular base that enhances its monumental character, despite its modest dimensions.
An aged bench, leaning against one of the neighboring walls, invites a brief pause. The combination of stone, white lime, and vibrant yellow creates a well-cared-for appearance, while the open space allows for appreciation of the rural surroundings, the green hillside and the soft lines of the houses.
