It stands in the area of Alcórrego and Maranhão, in the municipality of Avis, next to the bank of the Maranhão reservoir. The monument is located on a small rocky platform, surrounded by pine forest and riparian vegetation.

From its waterside position, one can see the surface of the reservoir and, on the horizon, the gentle undulation of hills covered with cork oaks and holm oaks.

Origin and Significance

This memorial commemorates the water resource development of the Maranhão reservoir, a project that transformed the local landscape and ensured water supply to the region. The cylindrical granite column supports inscriptions referring to the work and the year of its completion.

It stands as an in situ testament to the relationship between the community of Avis and natural resources, recalling the collective effort and human adaptation to the territory.

Aesthetics and Environment

The base sculpture, anchored in a cluster of irregular stones, creates a contrast between the solidity of granite and the organic forms of the rocks. The vertical trunk, smooth and austere, stands out against the sky and the green of the pine forest.

Nearby, a simple concrete railing invites contemplation of the lake and its reflections. The light filtering through the pine canopies accentuates the textures of the stone, creating a tranquil atmosphere.
