The Anta da Herdade da Ordem is part of a set of seven megalithic monuments in the Avis area, Alentejo. They are prehistoric vestiges of great historical and cultural value.
This ensemble was classified as a National Monument in 1910, which reinforces its importance and the heritage value it represents for the country.
The Anta Grande da Ordem was first explored at the end of the 19th century (in 1898), with the help of researchers such as Manuel de Mattos Silva and José Leite de Vasconcelos, important figures in the study of Portuguese archaeology.
Various ancient objects were found inside and are now in the National Museum of Archaeology, in Lisbon. These materials help to better understand the funerary and ritual practices of the communities that lived there thousands of years ago.
Visiting the Anta da Herdade da Ordem is an opportunity to get to know one of the oldest monuments in Portugal up close, witnessing the heritage of the prehistoric peoples who inhabited the region.
