It is located in the parish of Esperança, in the municipality of Arronches, south of the Serra de São Mamede, in Portugal.
The cave paintings date from the third millennium BC and show human figures, animals, and handprints, with colors ranging from red to yellow.
The Gaivões shelter is the most famous and the first to be discovered in 1914. The paintings depict scenes from the lives of shepherds, reflecting the agro-pastoral society of the time.
In addition to Vale de Junco and Lapa dos Gaivões, there are three other groups of paintings in the region:

The location is easily accessible, with parking available and a walkway that facilitates the observation of the paintings. It is recommended for walks and family visits.

Admission is free and no reservations are required. The site is open to the public throughout the day.
It is advisable to visit in the late afternoon for better lighting of the paintings. Bringing a camera is a good idea to capture the beauty of the place.
