The Municipal Garden of Elvas is located in the Alentejo city of Elvas, in the heart of the municipality of Elvas, and specifically in the urban area known as Bairro das Caxias. It is situated in a transitional position, marking the exit from the historic part of the city towards its more recent neighborhoods. Its borders are delineated by important thoroughfares such as Avenida António Sardinha and Avenida Dom Sancho Manuel.
This garden represents Elvas's main green lung, notable for its abundant and varied tree cover. Walking its paths, one encounters extensive areas of dense vegetation, punctuated by masses of herbaceous plants and shrubs that form well-tended flowerbeds and hedges. The presence of different plant species contributes to a fresh and inviting environment, especially on the hottest days in the Alentejo.
Designed in the 20th century, the Municipal Garden features a largely organic layout, with winding paths that invite strolls. The space is structured by axes that divide it into distinct sections. At one of its central points, a bandstand evokes the tradition of philharmonic bands, suggesting the memory of past times of socializing and outdoor music. Completing this scenery are some pieces of statuary and rounded water bowls, which add a decorative touch and tranquility to the environment.
This garden is a dynamic place, designed for active and passive leisure for visitors of all ages. For the younger ones, there is a playground. The northernmost area of the garden is dedicated to more energetic activities, including a space for extreme sports, a tennis center, and a multi-sports court. Recently, new elements such as a mini-golf course and outdoor fitness equipment have been integrated, enriching the options for recreation and well-being.
