The Crato Bullring is integrated into the urban area of Bairro de Pêro Filho, in the Alentejo village of Crato. Its location allows its characteristic structure to be observed within the town's urban landscape, contributing to the image of a municipality with deep historical and cultural roots in Alto Alentejo.
Inaugurated on September 9, 1930, the Crato Bullring is a landmark that reflects the history and traditions of the region. Its construction was driven by a commission of benefactors, with the original purpose of being handed over to and belonging to the local Santa Casa da Misericórdia. This initiative demonstrates the venue's strong connection to the community and its role in the social and cultural life of the village over the decades.
With a capacity of 1,200 seats, the bullring has the typical dimensions of a smaller-sized bullfighting arena in Portugal, which provides a more intimate atmosphere for the events held there. After a period of abandonment, the municipality of Crato undertook refurbishment works, ensuring the maintenance and future viability of this structure. This intervention allowed for the revitalization of a space that is part of the architectural and cultural identity of the village.
