The Lusitano-Roman Villa of Granja is located in the Union of Parishes of Crato and Mártires, in the municipality of Crato, next to the road that connects Crato to Alter do Chão, about 500 meters from the train station.
Dating back to the 3rd century, this villa belongs to the Roman period, being an example of Roman agricultural architecture of the time.
The remains were found in 1936 and include residential walls and various floors decorated with mosaics. It was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1980, but this classification expired in 2009.
The villa covers an area of approximately 15,000 square meters and is buried about one meter deep. Five mosaic-decorated floors were discovered, some of them polychrome with geometric patterns and others in black and white checkered style.
The mosaics are one of the main attractions, reflecting the wealth of the villa. At the time, owners used to commission artistic works to decorate their residences, including mosaics made by experts.
Currently, there is no special protection for the site, but it continues to be a point of historical and cultural interest in the region.
