The Alegrete Bandstand is located in the heart of the locality of Alegrete, in the municipality of Portalegre. Situated in Largo da Praça, it occupies a central and visible position, fitting into the tranquil and characteristic atmosphere of this Alentejo village. Its presence in the square contributes to the serene atmosphere of the public space.

Its Origin

Erected at the beginning of the 20th century, the Alegrete Bandstand was designed to be an outdoor stage. Its construction aimed to offer a suitable space for musical band performances, thereby marking the cultural and social environment of the village and providing moments of social gathering and entertainment to the community throughout the decades.

Architecture and Details

This bandstand stands out for its unique and harmonious architecture. It features an octagonal plan, resting on a platform that, unusually for this type of structure, integrates small facilities within its interior. The exterior part is highlighted by an elegant framework of wrought iron that surrounds the entire platform.

Eight slender columns rise from the base, supporting the dome-shaped roof, also octagonal. At its highest point, the dome is topped by a delicate wrought iron harp, an artistic detail that confers a touch of distinction to the ensemble and symbolizes the bandstand's original musical function.
