The Casa das Artes de Gavião is located in the heart of Gavião village, at Rua Dr. Dias Calazans, number 34. Its central position makes it an easily accessible landmark for those exploring the locality, integrated into the daily life dynamics of the village.

Legacy and Renovation

This remarkable building, originally known as Casa do João Ascensão or Casa da Noiva (House of João Ascensão or House of the Bride), was erected in the first half of the 20th century. Built by José Pedro Estevinha, the property was later bequeathed to João Pedro de Ascensão, a prominent figure who presided over the Gavião Municipal Council. It was under his tenure that the house underwent a profound transformation, becoming one of the most beautiful architectural examples in the municipality.

After a period of abandonment and degradation, the Casa das Artes was acquired by the Municipality of Gavião in 2014. This was followed by an extensive recovery project that restored the building's original splendor, respecting its historical structure and compartmentalization. This careful intervention ensured the preservation of its character while preparing it for a new vocation.

A Cultural Hub

Currently, the Casa das Artes de Gavião establishes itself as a vibrant cultural center, dedicated to promoting artistic heritage and local identity. Its space houses a Museum and a Gallery, designed to highlight the collection of artists and the musical band from the Alentejo Village of Gavião. Spread across five rooms, the exhibitions respect the house's original layout, offering a journey that invites discovery of the region's creativity and cultural history.
