The Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is harmoniously integrated into the urban fabric of the historic town of Castelo de Vide. Its presence enriches the municipality's heritage, inviting visitors to explore the picturesque surrounding streets on foot.
This religious building showcases a remarkable combination of architectural elements from the Manueline and Baroque periods. The chapel is characterized by a single nave, without a transept, ending in a short, rectangular apse. Inside, the ceiling is covered with stucco, adding an aesthetic dimension to the space.
One of its most distinctive aspects is the main façade, where a beautiful Manueline portal can be admired. This portal is marked by a polylobed arch, delicately ornamented with vegetal decorations. Above, on the second floor, the curious "earring windows" stand out, a detail that reflects the artistic creativity of the era.
Attached to the chapel, the Casa do Despacho is a space that captivates with its singularity. Its interior walls are decorated with tile wainscoting, featuring the style known as "macacarias", where caricatural or profane-themed figures create an unusual and appealing atmosphere. The "masseira" type ceiling is carefully crafted and painted, complementing the tile ornamentation.
The originality of this Casa do Despacho is emphasized by its peculiar location, as it is built on an elevated floor, precisely above the main body of the chapel. This unusual arrangement makes it one of the most striking and interesting features of the architectural complex.
