The Pillory is located in front of the Town Hall in the village of Cabeço de Vide, in the municipality of Fronteira.
This pillory is classified as a national monument, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
It is made of granite and has a square base with three steps, upon which an octagonal column rises. The capital has a conical shape and displays the Cross of Avis on one side.
The Pillory represents the judicial autonomy of the old town, symbolizing the capacity for self-organization and administration of justice.
In the past, it served as a place for the execution of penalties that did not include the death penalty. It was a space where offenders were exposed to the public, receiving physical punishments according to the severity of the crime.
Its original function was extinguished in 1855, with the end of the municipality, but the pillory remained standing, being restored and preserved.
Despite having suffered damage over the years, especially due to the use of the steps by woodcutters, today it is well preserved and is a point of tourist interest.
The Pillory is now associated with the Village Museum, which occupies the entire hill, allowing visitors to better understand the history and importance of the region.
