Situated between the Seda and Sarrazola streams, now joined in the Maranhão Dam reservoir, in a peaceful location with expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
The church dates back to the 15th century, but there are traces that point to earlier occupations, including a Roman inscription integrated into the structure.
With three interior naves and an exterior porch (galilee), typical of pilgrimage churches, where pilgrims used to take shelter.
Bell tower with two bells, placed perpendicularly to the main facade.
In front of the church there is a shaded picnic area with benches and views over the reservoir, great for relaxing or hiking.
Outside, you can see a tombstone with a Roman inscription dedicated to “Lobesa”, associated with ancient water and fertility cults.
The floor maintains several tombs with ancient inscriptions, a masonry pulpit, and a rococo-style altarpiece with decorative painting.
Since the 18th century, it has been considered a place of pilgrimage, especially during the Feasts of the Incarnation and the Holy Trinity.
The church has been the subject of several recovery works, with emphasis on interventions in 1696, 1963 and in the 21st century, with arrangements to the accesses and exterior spaces.
It is located next to the EN370 between Benavila and Seda, with signage and parking space in the vicinity.
