The Church of the Convent of Santo António has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1983, highlighting its historical and cultural importance.
The convent was founded in 1617 by Teodósio II, Duke of Bragança. Over time, it underwent several modifications, especially in the 18th century.
The project to adapt the convent for tourism purposes was carried out by the company Santos Pinheiro Arquitectos Associados Lda., composed of Nuno Santos Pinheiro, Vasco Maria Santos Pinheiro, and Ana Carreiras.
The church has a single nave, decorated with tiles and painted and carved woodwork, offering a welcoming atmosphere rich in artistic details.
The side chapel was built in 1784 by João Alves Barreto, adding more historical value to the building.
Highlights include the stone and wood sculptures, as well as several emblazoned tombs from the 17th and 18th centuries, which enrich the visit to the site.
