The Palace is located in Vila Verde dos Francos, in the municipality of Alenquer. It is on the Main Street, at the entrance to the village for those coming from Alenquer.
Built in the 15th century by D. Gonçalo de Albuquerque, father of D. Afonso de Albuquerque, viceroy of India. It was the residence of the Lords and Counts of Vila Verde dos Francos and Marquises of Angeja.
At its peak, the palace was described with grandeur, surrounded by a fence, and with an abundance of water throughout the year. It had many types of trees such as orange trees, pear trees, apple trees, cherry trees and fig trees, as well as a dovecote.
The palace is in an advanced state of disrepair, with some ruined facades and still visible walls. In the 1980s, the almost complete main facade was demolished to build a gas station, but it was safeguarded by the intervention of Maria Alice Rosa Gomes.
A window associated with the legend that Luís Vaz de Camões fell in love with Natércia (or Catarina de Ataíde) is still preserved. In addition, next to the palace there is a Gothic fountain with a characteristic ogival arch.
