The CIM Observation Tower is located at the Sítio do Barcal, an area within the locality of São Domingos de Benfica, in the municipality of Lisbon. It is situated within a vast area of sixteen hectares, delimited and integrated into the western slope of the Monsanto Forest Park. This location gives it a strategic position for observing nature and the surrounding urban landscape.
From the top of the tower, a unique view of the surrounding area unfolds. It is possible to contemplate the natural and dense descent of the forest, which extends along the western slope of the Serra de Monsanto. One of the most striking features visible is the imposing Aqueduct of Free Waters, a historical architectural work that stands out in the landscape. On days with good visibility, the gaze also reaches the emblematic Amoreiras Towers, which punctuate the Lisbon skyline.
The tower is situated in the heart of a perimeter that is distinguished as a natural refuge, where human presence is intentionally controlled. This site was conceived by the Monsanto Interpretation Centre (CIM) with the objective of recreating and maintaining an ecosystem in a near-natural state. It serves as a privileged point for the interpretation and observation of biodiversity, offering a window into the flora and fauna that inhabit this green lung of the capital.
