The Mirita Casimiro Municipal Theatre is located in Monte Estoril, a distinctive and consolidated area within Estoril, part of the Cascais municipality. Its location contributes to the cultural offerings of an area known for its tranquil atmosphere and its connection to the coastline.
The building that today houses the Mirita Casimiro Municipal Theatre has a remarkable history. Originally, it was known as Picadeiro do Estoril (Estoril Riding Arena), a space dedicated to equestrian art. In 1979, the venue was ceded by the Cascais Municipal Council to the renowned company Teatro Experimental de Cascais (TEC) (Experimental Theatre of Cascais). After significant renovation works to adapt it for its new theatrical function, the space was officially inaugurated in 1986, receiving the name of actress Mirita Casimiro. This tribute reflects recognition for her valuable contribution to the company's journey and success.
Since its reopening, this theatre has established itself as a vital hub of cultural activity in Cascais. Its stage has been a meeting point for renowned actors, as well as for new talents, many of whom trained at the Cascais Professional Theatre School. With an auditorium capable of seating around one hundred people, the theatre offers an intimate and engaging experience. Additionally, it features a foyer that can be adapted to host small performances or concerts, expanding its versatility and relevance in the local artistic landscape.
