The Camões Theatre is located in the heart of the Parque das Nações, a modern and vibrant area of Lisbon. Its position on the right bank of the Tagus River offers a contemporary urban environment, where one can enjoy the proximity to the riverside promenade. Origin and Architectural Style:

This cultural space was built between 1997 and 1998 as a fundamental part of the Expo ’98 project. Its architectural design, signed by Gabinete Risco under the direction of Manuel Salgado, is characterized by a simple and impactful composition. The design integrates cohesively with the materials and the surrounding public space, giving the building a symbolic and distinctive presence by the Tagus River.

A Stage for Dance:

Since 2002, the Camões Theatre has established itself as the official residence of the Companhia Nacional de Bailado (National Ballet Company). This partnership has consolidated the venue as a central pillar for performing arts in Portugal. It is in this theatre that the Company develops and presents much of its programming, actively contributing to the dissemination of dance and the cultural enhancement of the city.

Modernity and Structure:

Recently, the Camões Theatre underwent a notable requalification, focused on optimizing its aesthetics and functionality. Improvements included the renovation of the facades and a redesign of the night lighting, which highlights the architectural lines and ensures visibility. Inside, visitors will find an inviting atrium with a large glass facade, providing a direct visual connection to the expansive Mar da Palha (Pool of the Straw). The auditorium, with a significant capacity, and its foyers have been modernized to offer a welcoming environment adapted to current demands. The stage also features a flexible technical ceiling and an orchestra pit, allowing for a wide range of artistic creations and live performances.
