MU.SA, Sintra Art Museum is located in the Estefânia area, a central and active part of the town of Sintra, in the municipality of Sintra. The building, which once housed the Casino da Vila (Village Casino), is situated in an urban environment with a strong cultural identity, contributing to the artistic dynamism of Estefânia.
MU.SA positions itself as a hub dedicated to visual arts, serving as a meeting point and a place for cultural enjoyment for visitors to Sintra. This museum is home to the Municipal Contemporary Art Collection, which encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions in various techniques and languages, reflecting the artistic output of different generations.
The experience at MU.SA invites visitors to discover figurative art through painting and sculpture, featuring works by Portuguese and international artists with ties to Portugal. A notable part of the collection is the Emílio de Paula Campos Collection, a set of works by a distinguished sculptor, watercolorist, and collector who bequeathed his artistic legacy to the Sintra Municipal Council. In addition to its permanent collections, the museum features a gallery that hosts temporary exhibitions by national and foreign artists, and a space exclusively dedicated to photography, where various aspects of this art form are explored, from contemporary works to pieces from the municipal photographic archive.
Complementing the museum visit, MU.SA incorporates a Municipal Bookstore in its main atrium. This space invites moments of pause and discovery, with a selection of publications that integrate into the museum's artistic atmosphere, providing visitors with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of arts and culture.
