The Abegoaria and Quinta da Pena are located in Sintra, in the Quinta do Castanheiro area. This spot is situated in a specific area of Pena Park, positioned between the Valley of the Lakes and near the Countess d’Edla’s Chalet, which provides it with a natural and serene setting.

The Rural Legacy

This complex reflects Sintra’s rural and historical legacy. The Abegoaria, a building dating back to the 19th century, was carefully restored, preserving its original architecture and its function as a support space for the estate's agricultural and livestock activities. It represents a glimpse into countryside life of yesteryear, linked to the context of a royal property.

The Equestrian Heart

Currently, the Abegoaria functions as a center for the equestrian activities of Quinta da Pena. Here reside working horses, such as the robust Ardennais horses, which assist in the park's forestry tasks and pull carriages. There are also saddle horses, with an adjacent riding arena, allowing observation of the animals up close, in their training and preparation environment. It is a space where the connection with animals and equestrian tradition is palpable.

Rural Setting

The surroundings of the Abegoaria, Quinta da Pena itself, offer a distinctly rural and welcoming atmosphere. In this space, one can find animals of Portuguese breeds, such as sheep, goats, and poultry, as well as a pony, which bring vivacity to the place. There is also a cultivated vegetable garden and spaces to enjoy leisure time outdoors, which highlights the estate's rural and inviting character.
