Located in downtown Lisbon, the Cine-Teatro Politeama is on Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, one of the city's most central and bustling streets.
Inaugurated on December 6, 1913, the Politeama is one of the oldest theaters in Lisbon. Construction began in 1912, driven by Luís António Pereira, a theater and music enthusiast. The project was signed by architect Miguel Ventura Terra, a relevant figure in Portuguese architecture.
The Politeama's premiere was marked by the presentation of the operetta "Valsa de Amor" (Love Waltz).
Since the late 20th century, the theater has become a central point for the performing arts in Lisbon, especially for musical productions and plays directed by the acclaimed director Filipe La Féria.
The Cine-Teatro Politeama was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 2002, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
Over the years, the Politeama has hosted several notable plays, including "Amália, O Musical," "The Sound of Music," "La Cage aux Folles," "Grande Revista à Portuguesa" (The Great Portuguese Revue), and many others, all under the direction of Filipe La Féria.
The theater's interior maintains its classic charm, providing a unique and immersive experience for its visitors, with a blend of tradition and innovation in its productions.
