The Panorâmico de Monsanto Restaurant is located in Monsanto Forest Park, the vast green area that constitutes Lisbon's lung. Its elevated position, in the area known as Montes Claros, gives it a distinct natural setting, offering a unique perspective on the urban and surrounding landscape of the Portuguese capital.
This building was designed by architect Chaves Costa and stands out for its circular shape and the size of its structure, with five floors and a considerable radius. Built in the 1960s, in reinforced concrete, its architecture is a hallmark of the era in which it was built, imposing itself on the hill where it is located.
Originally, the Panorâmico de Monsanto was designed to be a leisure complex with a restaurant, esplanade, and other facilities, having been inaugurated with these functions in 1970. Over the decades, it had intermittent operation and eventually went through a long period of abandonment. More recently, the space was reconverted, now serving as a municipal viewpoint open to the public, and also a stage for various artistic expressions, such as urban art.
The main attraction of the place for visitors is, without a doubt, the view it offers. Due to its architectural design and privileged location, the Panorâmico de Monsanto allows for a truly panoramic observation of Lisbon, covering a very wide angle of the city, which can extend up to 360 degrees at certain points. It is an invitation to contemplate the diversity of Lisbon's landscape from an elevated and central point.
