The Redoubt of Patameira is located in the locality of Casal das Paijuanas, in the municipality of Sobral de Monte Agraço. Situated at an altitude of approximately 250 meters, this elevated point provides a comprehensive perspective of the surrounding rural landscape. Testament to the Peninsular War

Dating from the 19th century, the Redoubt of Patameira is a fundamental piece of the vast defensive system of the Lines of Torres Vedras. This military work was erected with the purpose of protecting Lisbon from French invasions during the turbulent period of the Peninsular War. Its construction was part of the first defensive line, demonstrating the military engineering and the determination of the time to ensure the defense of Portuguese territory.

Defensive Architecture

Conceived as a redoubt for field artillery, this fort was designed to house a garrison of three hundred soldiers. Its robust and functional structure reflects the defensive needs of the time, with spaces intended for the placement of weaponry and the protection of troops. The design of this redoubt, a military work numbered 151, is an example of 19th-century military architecture adapted to the local topography to maximize its combat effectiveness.
