Located in Bobadela, in the municipality of Loures, Quinta dos Remédios enjoys a privileged geographical setting. Its position offers visitors expansive views over the vast Tagus River estuary and the notable Vasco da Gama Bridge. This site integrates harmoniously into the urban fabric of Bobadela, benefiting from its proximity to this important riverside front.
Quinta dos Remédios has a history dating back to the 18th century. For about two hundred years, this property was an agricultural production farm, with its cultivated lands, vineyards, and olive groves. The complex included a manor house, an olive press, and structures such as a well with a nora and an irrigation tank, essential for agricultural activity. The main house of the quinta was, over time, associated with the family of the Counts of Mendia, becoming known as the Palace of the Counts of Mendia. It is believed that the name "Remédios" originates from a 16th-century legend that tells the story of D. Manuel I and the construction of a chapel on the site.
Currently, Quinta dos Remédios presents itself as a vast leisure space, spanning approximately 4.3 hectares, which was opened to the public in 2016. It is an inviting place for those seeking moments of tranquility or outdoor activities. Visitors can stroll through the old olive grove, observe the fauna that inhabits the quinta, or simply enjoy walks along its pedestrian circuit. For fitness enthusiasts, outdoor gym equipment is available, and children can have fun on a three-dimensional net. The quinta also offers a picnic area, equipped with tables and benches, ideal for gatherings.
In addition to its natural and recreational aspects, the quinta integrates a unique Science Garden. This space was designed to provide fun and interactive experiences, fostering contact with technological challenges and the universe of scientific knowledge. There are plans to rehabilitate the Palace of the Counts of Mendia to house a science and technology center. This future center will be a stage for pedagogical initiatives and cultural and scientific dissemination, underscoring the role of Quinta dos Remédios as a reference hub in heritage valorization and knowledge promotion.
