Quinta do Lameiro is located in Lisbon, in the Bairro do Calhau area, São Domingos de Benfica. The property stands out in the urban environment by being isolated by a courtyard and a walled garden, maintaining a certain privacy and a distinct character. Its green and agricultural areas extend to the east and north of the main house, lending it an atmosphere of tranquility within the city.

Architectural Features

The main building of Quinta do Lameiro, constructed between the 17th and 18th centuries, features an L-shaped plan and a stepped volume, with hip roofs. Its central core is organized around a rectangular courtyard, composed of two perpendicularly arranged bodies, rising three stories high. On the west-facing facade, there is a gallery with round arches, leading to the main entrance, characterized by its straight lintel and simple limestone framing.

Artistic and Historical Details

One of the most notable elements of Quinta do Lameiro are its azulejos. On the courtyard walls, one can admire Pombaline azulejo wainscoting with a camellia pattern, sometimes adorned with circular compositions incorporating iron rings. The main staircase, leading to the noble floor, is adorned with a wrought-iron railing and similarly covered by polychrome azulejo wainscoting, creating the illusion of paneling. Inside, some of the rooms still preserve their original azulejo wainscoting, dating from the second half of the 18th century. The quinta, which initially belonged to the Sanches Baena family, was the setting for important agricultural experiments with imported seeds during the second half of the 19th century, a testament to its long history as an agricultural and forest property.
