Quinta da Murzinheira is located in A-dos-Arcos, a tranquil village in the municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos. The site is set in a predominantly rural context, surrounded by a landscape that combines extensive agricultural areas, notably the vineyards characteristic of the region, with the presence of pine and eucalyptus trees, lending it a serene and natural environment.
This is a place with a strong connection to the history of Portuguese literature, as it was at Quinta da Murzinheira that the notable writer and educator Irene Lisboa was born in 1892. Recognized for her work and for how she approached daily life and her own experiences, Irene Lisboa held significant memories of this space, which sometimes shine through in her writings, such as her "remote afternoons at the quinta" and the "unparalleled seasons" of her childhood.
Currently, Quinta da Murzinheira is part of the heritage of the Municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos. There is a cultural and museological valorization project for this property, which aims to honor the writer's estate, functioning as a hub dedicated to books and reading, and thus perpetuating her important literary legacy.
Historically, Quinta da Murzinheira played an active role in local agricultural activity, possessing an old winery that supported field work, a striking tradition in the region. This rural dimension of the quinta was also an element present in Irene Lisboa's own observations.
More recently, the space has been the setting for initiatives focused on the environment and sustainability. A reforestation effort, which included the planting of about 750 trees such as oaks, holly, and strawberry trees, contributed to the enrichment of local vegetation. Additionally, the quinta hosts an innovative project in the field of renewable energy, with the installation of solar panels aimed at creating an energy community in the A-dos-Arcos area, reinforcing its connection to modernity and sustainability.
