Praia dos Tombadoiros is located in the Casal do Carido area, in the picturesque village of Ericeira, belonging to the municipality of Mafra. This Atlantic coastal strip is situated at the base of an imposing cliff, marking its presence along National Road 247. Its position offers wide views over the ocean, set within a rugged natural landscape typical of this part of the Portuguese coast. Access to this beach is gained by walking along the sands of the contiguous beaches, naturally connecting it to the surrounding coastline.
This beach stands out for its particular conformation, resting predominantly on an extensive and remarkable rocky slab. The sandy area, diminutive in nature, appears fragmented into small strips of sand, interspersed with numerous pebbles and stones. This geological constitution gives it a rugged appearance and unique beauty, distancing it from typical continuous sand beaches and inviting a closer observation of the natural elements.
The waters that bathe Praia dos Tombadoiros are typically characterized by their agitated state, reflecting the force of the Atlantic Ocean. A notable aspect to consider is the influence of tides on its landscape: during periods of high tide, the water reaches the base of the cliff, rising and completely covering the already scarce sandy area. At these times, the beach seems to disappear beneath the waves, revealing itself again only when the tide recedes, dynamically altering its physiognomy and the experience of those who visit it.
