The Alberto Romano Oceanic Pool is located on the picturesque coast of Cascais, in Estoril. It is strategically positioned next to the east face of the imposing Palmela Palace, benefiting from the natural curve of the coastal wall. Its location offers a tranquil environment and unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean, making it an easily accessible landmark in the Tamariz area.
This bathing area, approximately fifty meters in length, stands out as a saltwater pool, directly supplied by the Atlantic waters. Its design takes advantage of the natural rocky surroundings, creating a controlled and serene bathing area. It is an example of coastal engineering that allows visitors to enjoy the sea experience without the typical currents or waves of the open coast.
The Alberto Romano Oceanic Pool was named in honor of an important figure in the region's tourism promotion: Alberto Romano, who once chaired the Estoril Coast Tourism Board. This naming reflects the recognition of his contribution to the area's development and his relevance in local history, making it a place of significance for the community.
The location offers a relaxing natural environment, where seawater is constantly renewed, providing a refreshing experience. The landscape is dominated by the presence of the ocean and the rock formations that delimit the pool. Near the eastern side, one can observe the Ribeira da Castelhana (Castelhana Stream) flowing into the sea, an element that complements the natural character of this coastal retreat.
