Praia do Norte is located at one end of the village of Ericeira, situated in the Abadia area, within the municipality of Mafra. It is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, and its surroundings are marked by imposing cliffs that stretch along the coast, providing a distinct natural setting and wide views of the sea.
Its position offers a privileged vantage point over the coastal dynamics, where the power of the waves is felt, contributing to a characteristic maritime landscape of the region.
The name Praia do Norte is intrinsically linked to the Chapel of São Sebastião, a small white building that stands at the top of the cliff, on the southern side of the beach. This chapel, whose origin dates back to the early 16th century, is a historical landmark and a symbolic element for the area.
Its presence on the cliff is not only a geographical reference point but also a visual complement to the natural landscape of the coastline, enriching the experience of those who visit the site.
The sandy area of Praia do Norte is distinguished by its dimensions, which vary significantly with the tides. During high tide, most of the sand expanse can be submerged, transforming the coastal landscape and revealing different perspectives of the location throughout the day.
Access to the beach is via a staircase that descends the cliff, on its southern side. Midway along this path, there is a landing that offers a pause and the opportunity to contemplate the panoramic view of the sea and the coastline, making it an ideal spot to appreciate the vastness of the ocean.
