Praia de São Sebastião is located at one end of the picturesque village of Ericeira, in the area known as Abadia, within the municipality of Mafra. Its position, nestled against the cliff and facing the Atlantic Ocean, offers a coastal setting characteristic of the region.
The name of this beach is a direct homage to the Chapel of São Sebastião, a small and distinct white building erected in the early 16th century. This chapel is located at the top of the cliff bordering the beach, serving as a visual landmark and a testament to local history, lending the place an atmosphere rooted in the past.
Praia de São Sebastião is characterized by a smaller sandy area, which extends in an elongated shape. Its extent is significantly influenced by the tide: during high tide, much of the sandy strip becomes submerged, an important aspect to consider for those looking to fully enjoy the beach.
Access to the beach is facilitated by a staircase built into the cliff, located on the southern part of the sandy area. Halfway along this access path, there is a landing that functions as a small natural balcony. This point offers an opportunity to appreciate the landscape, revealing a panoramic view over the sandy area and the vast expanse of the ocean.
