São Lourenço Beach is located on the coastline of the municipality of Mafra, integrated into the parish of Encarnação. It is an oceanic beach that stretches along a bay whose shape offers a certain natural shelter. Its surroundings are characterized by coastal cliffs and vegetation that contributes to the natural scenery of the place.
This beach stands out for its vast and very wide sandy area, which invites moments of tranquility or activity by the sea. It is here that the Safarujo River meets the Atlantic Ocean, marking the landscape with its estuary. The sea, in this portion of the Portuguese coast, presents consistent movement, creating suitable conditions for the practice of water sports.
The landscape of São Lourenço Beach is enriched by the presence of Fort of Santa Susana, a defensive construction dating back to the 17th century. Situated on top of the cliff that borders the beach, this fort recalls the past of coastal surveillance and protection. Additionally, this beach is part of the area classified as Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, an international recognition that highlights the natural and sporting value of its waves and the coastal environment.
