It is characterized by an extensive sandy beach that stretches along the coast, flanked by natural hills and dunes. The surroundings are marked by vegetation covering part of the landscape, providing a natural and relatively secluded environment. Access to the beach is facilitated by wooden walkways that cross the dunes, helping to protect this ecosystem.
This beach is notable for its vast sandy area, which stretches generously, ideal for walks or enjoying the space. The Atlantic Ocean bathes Santa Rita Beach with considerable swell, making it a point of interest for those who appreciate the power of the sea. To the north, the sandy area is bordered by a rocky cliff, which contributes to the scenic identity of the place. Along the beach, one can observe the dune system that protects it, a relevant natural element in the landscape.
The sea characteristics at Santa Rita Beach, with its strong and consistent swell, attract water sports enthusiasts. It is particularly sought after by practitioners of surf and bodyboard, who find favorable conditions for their activity there. The presence of good waves makes it a prime location for these modalities, welcoming visitors dedicated to these sports throughout the year.
The name of Santa Rita Beach has a peculiar and historical origin, dating back to the 19th century. In 1823, near the cliffs of this coast, a hermitage dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia was built by Friar Alexandre de Meneses. Tradition says that the initiative arose after a shipwreck nearby, whose debris washed an image of Saint Rita ashore. This image was kept with great devotion and, in its honor, an inscription was engraved on the hermitage door, flanked by a stone cross. Thus, the nearby sandy area adopted the popular name of Santa Rita Beach, which remains to this day.
Santa Rita Beach is recognized by several awards that attest to its quality and sustainability. It has been honored with the Blue Flag, an international symbol of environmental quality and coastal management. Furthermore, its distinction as "Accessible Beach, Beach for All!" highlights its concern for inclusion and ease of access. The beach is also certified with Gold Quality, a recognition that underscores the excellence of its bathing waters and its environmental management.
