Porto Dinheiro Beach is located in the municipality of Lourinhã, integrated into the locality of Ribamar, in the coastal area of Porto Dinheiro. This beach is framed by a surrounding area of cliffs and is situated next to a small village that maintains a character linked to maritime activities.
Its geographical position, sheltered by the cliffs, gives it a particular atmosphere, offering views over the Atlantic and the coastline. The sandy area extends for a considerable length, providing ample space to enjoy the maritime environment.
The imposing cliffs that flank Porto Dinheiro Beach are more than a scenic element; they hold a testament to a distant geological past. In these rock formations, remarkable vestiges dating back to the Jurassic period have been discovered.
This site is particularly significant for paleontology, with dinosaur footprints having been found here. Its importance is underscored by the identification of a new dinosaur species, the Dinheirosaurus lourinhanensis, whose name pays homage to the region, and also the multituberculate Portopinheirodon asymmetricus, reinforcing the scientific and historical value of the discoveries made here.
With an extensive sandy area of clear sand, stretching for about a kilometer, Porto Dinheiro Beach offers an environment that tends to be tranquil for most of the year. The natural protection of the cliffs contributes to a sense of shelter by the sea.
In the southern part of the beach, the action of nature over time has sculpted two natural pools of saltwater into the rocks. These formations, accessible at low tide, constitute a point of interest for those seeking a different way to enjoy the seawater and the coastal scenery.
Although Porto Dinheiro Beach is known for its serenity, the month of August brings a particular liveliness to the place. It is at this time that the traditional Sea Festival is celebrated, an event that reflects the coastal community's culture and connection to its roots.
This festivity includes the unique "vacada" (cattle driving) on the sandy area, a practice that is part of the annual celebrations and attracts those looking to experience the traditions and the characteristic festive atmosphere of the locality. It is a moment when the beach transforms into a stage for the expression of local identity.
