Paço de Arcos Beach is an urban beach located on the coast of the town of Paço de Arcos, in the municipality of Oeiras. It represents one of the westernmost points of the Tagus estuary area in Greater Lisbon and is located a short distance, about 400 meters, from the historic heart of the town.
The beach is bordered by the Oeiras Promenade, which extends here, providing a continuous pedestrian connection along the coastline. In its vicinity, relevant buildings such as the facilities of the Navy's Directorate of Lighthouses and the old Fort of São Pedro de Paço de Arcos, now a military center, can be seen, enriching the surrounding landscape.
Also known by names such as Praia Nova or Praia do Baluarte, this sandy beach has a considerable length, reaching approximately 400 meters. Its waters are classified as good quality, being suitable for bathing.
The western section of the beach features submerged rock formations, while the central and eastern areas, near the pier by the Directorate of Lighthouses, are the most inviting for beach enjoyment. A distinctive feature of this space is its nighttime lighting, which allows the beach experience to be extended beyond daylight hours.
This space is very popular for leisure moments by the sea and for practicing outdoor sports. The town of Paço de Arcos itself maintains a strong connection to its fishing tradition, giving the beach and its surrounding area a character intrinsically linked to the sea and its communities.
For the well-being of its visitors, the beach has support facilities that include toilets and showers. Accessibility to the beach is facilitated by boardwalks. Maintaining environmental quality is a priority, with the presence of equipment for selective waste disposal and beach eco-ashtrays.
The beach is cleaned daily, using both mechanical and manual methods. Additionally, assistance to bathers is ensured by the presence of lifeguards during the bathing season. Paço de Arcos Beach is honored with quality awards, such as the Blue Flag and the Gold Flag, and holds the distinction of Accessible Beach, which underscores its commitment to excellence and inclusion.
