Located on the Sintra coast, in the Azoia area, in Colares, Praia de Assentiz is integrated into the landscape of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It is an inlet bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, distinguished by being surrounded by imposing cliffs, giving it a naturally isolated character.
Praia de Assentiz, sometimes also referred to as Praia da Enseada de Assentiz (Assentiz Inlet Beach), offers a modest-sized sandy area nestled within an inlet. Although the Atlantic waters are naturally rough, the site's natural rocky terrain provides some protection to the sandy stretch. It is a beach where one can observe rolled pebbles mixed with the sand, adding a unique texture to its coastal expanse.
A striking characteristic of Praia de Assentiz is the challenge it presents regarding access to the sandy area. The descent down the steep cliffs surrounding it is considered extremely difficult and entails a high level of danger due to the earthy nature of the cliffs. There is a trail that starts from the end of Rua dos Moinhos, in the Southern part of Azoia village, but this route is only advisable for experienced trekkers. For the vast majority of visitors, the safest and most recommended way to reach the sandy area is by boat.
