Torre Beach is located in São Julião da Barra, in the municipality of Oeiras. It is sheltered on the eastern side of the imposing Forte de São Julião da Barra (Fort of São Julião da Barra), a fortification that gives it its name and a unique identity. This geographical position offers it natural protection from the winds.
On its eastern limit, the beach is next to the Oeiras Marina, a long pier that delimits this bathing area. It is also at this location that the Oeiras Maritime Promenade begins, a coastal path that invites visitors to appreciate the landscape of the Tagus Estuary.
The striking presence of the Forte de São Julião da Barra is a central element in the landscape of Torre Beach. This colossal fortification, built in the 16th century, played a vital role in the maritime defense of Lisbon and the Tagus estuary. Recognized as a National Monument since 1910, the fort stands out for its imposing military architecture, with robust bastions and thick walls, despite not being open to the public.
Its history is rich, having served not only as a defensive structure but also as a prison and quarantine station throughout the centuries. The Tower, which gives the beach its name, refers to the central tower of this ancient fortress, visible to those on the sand.
Torre Beach features an extensive and inviting sandy area, characterized by its golden and fine sand. The waters, calmer and more protected than in other nearby beaches, are ideal for those seeking a serene environment for sea bathing. Water quality is regularly monitored, ensuring appropriate conditions for bathers.
Its considerable width offers space to enjoy the maritime environment, whether for a stroll along the water or for moments of tranquility. Palm trees and the "blue whale tail" sculpture in the vicinity of the marina complement the beach scenery.
