Empa Beach is situated in the coastal town of Ericeira, municipality of Mafra, atop a cliff in the area known as Alto de Ribeira d'Ilhas. Access to the sandy area is via a staircase that descends the slope, splitting midway. This elevated position offers a wide perspective over the Atlantic coastline.
This beach, also known as Pedra Branca Beach, is distinguished by its rock formations. The central area is dominated by an extensive rock slab approximately one hundred meters long. In the northern part of the sandy area, the sand expanse is more modest. During low tide, various natural pools form among the rocks, revealing small marine life.
The ocean at Empa Beach is often rough, a characteristic that shapes its identity. This dynamism of the waters makes it an integral part of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, renowned for its waves. The marine environment, with the sea breaking on the rocky coast and sandy areas, is a central aspect of the experience at this location.
Empa Beach offers a more secluded environment, and it is common to find it with few people. Its profile, marked by the presence of rocks and constant swell, attracts those seeking a more direct connection with the wild nature of the coast. It is a place that invites observation of the vast ocean and its natural dynamics.
