The Moinhos da Póvoa Riverside Park and the Tejo Cycle Path are located in Póvoa de Santa Iria, part of Vila Franca de Xira municipality's riverside front. This area offers direct and unobstructed views of the Tejo River, positioning itself as part of a continuous space for enjoyment by the water.
Its location allows it to integrate and extend other riverside routes in the region, offering a broader experience for those who wish to explore the river bank.
This riverside park constitutes an extensive leisure and recreation area, approximately 23,000m², designed for public enjoyment. The space stretches parallel to the Tejo River, creating a characteristic and inviting landscape.
The environment is designed for relaxation and the practice of various activities, with urban furniture and green areas that invite a break from routine, always with the river as a backdrop.
The Moinhos da Póvoa Riverside Park includes a pedestrian and cycling path approximately 1,800 meters long and 3.6 meters wide. This cycle path is part of a broader municipal network, developing along the riverside front.
The route offers the opportunity for walks and bicycle rides, allowing visitors to explore the riverside landscape in an active and relaxed way.
The park is equipped with a variety of structures for leisure and activities, some of which are directly connected to the water. There are tidal pools, a central space designed for beginner canoeing and rowing. Supporting these activities is a building that serves as a nautical club, equipped with changing rooms and sanitary facilities.
Along the riverside front, a promenade allows observation of both the river and the tidal pools. For those arriving by water, or simply appreciating nautical life, there is a pier 48 meters long, intended for mooring vessels and canoes, including the varino boat Liberdade. Two pontoons, rehabilitated and adapted, complement the infrastructure supporting riverside activities.
This space was born from a riverside front requalification project, transforming old storage areas linked to the fragateiro community into a modern leisure park. Its design aimed to offer a diverse set of options for visitors.
The quality of the project is evident in its integration with the natural environment and the inclusion of fitness sports structures, which were adapted to be accessible to users with reduced mobility, reflecting a commitment to inclusion and enjoyment for all.
