Located in Penha de França, a characteristic neighbourhood of Lisbon, Praça Paiva Couceiro is situated in a higher area of the city, marking one of the boundaries of what is considered Lisbon's urban centre. Design and Atmosphere

Praça Paiva Couceiro is an example of formal landscape architecture from the 1950s, with a project signed by the renowned landscape architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles in 1956. Its rectangular design is organized by straight paths that intertwine and lead to a central area. To the south, the square is densely wooded, offering welcoming shaded areas. To the north, a central clearing, sometimes complemented by awnings on sunny days, invites lingering and socializing.

The pathways are mostly paved, combining asphalt and, in some places, irregular limestone slabs. The garden areas, covered with lawn, are punctuated by herbaceous flowerbeds that give them a touch of colour and life. Among the prominent tree species, we can find the hackberry, plane tree, weeping willow, pepper tree, and honey locust.
