The Rinchoa-Fitares Urban Park is situated in the Rinchoa area, integrated into the locality of Rio de Mouro, which in turn belongs to the municipality of Sintra. This green space is located within an urban area, bounded to the north by a water line with regular flow, the Ribeira de Fitares, and also by the Oeste railway line, near Meleças Station. To the south, it is bordered by the railway line connecting Sintra to Lisbon, giving the park a clear geographical demarcation within the urban landscape.
More specifically, its area extends east of the Fitares and Urbanil developments, west of the Mira Sintra parish limit, and south of the Belas parish, offering a setting that blends urban dynamism with a natural environment.
With an area of approximately 12 hectares, Rinchoa-Fitares Urban Park represents a significant green lung in its urban context. This natural space is characterized by vegetation that includes Mediterranean species and eucalyptus trees, forming a diverse environment. The presence of the Ribeira de Fitares, which crosses the park, contributes to a unique riverside landscape, enriched by a remarkable variety of fauna and flora typical of these aquatic areas. It is a place where one can observe nature up close, including various bird species.
Designed for the enjoyment of its visitors, the park offers various possibilities for leisure, sports, and moments of outdoor relaxation. It is an inviting place for walks or bike rides, with several trails available. In addition to the paths, it is equipped with urban furniture, including picnic tables with benches, ideal for a picnic, and other scattered benches for resting. Younger visitors have a playground with equipment for activities such as climbing, balancing, and equilibrium training.
The park also features bicycle racks and a recreation cabin, providing infrastructure that complements the visitor's experience. For those with pets, there is a dedicated dog recreation area, designed for the well-being of all park users.
The Rinchoa-Fitares Urban Park was formally inaugurated on May 24, 2015. Its creation resulted from a rehabilitation and transformation project of an existing natural space in an urban environment. In the initial phase of its intervention, essential cleaning and requalification works were carried out on the terrain and the water line, which allowed for the enhancement of the site's natural environment. The installation of various urban furniture and informative signage was part of this first stage, creating the conditions for the park to become the quality space it is today for the community and visitors.
