Its design takes advantage of the local topography, which gradually descends from a higher zone towards the riverside, allowing visitors to feel the vastness of the space and its connection to the surrounding landscape. A Cultural Legacy in Open Space

Inaugurated in June 2003, Phase I of the Poets' Park represents the realization of an ambitious project aimed at honoring Portuguese poetry and sculptural art. Born from a vision that united the poet David Mourão-Ferreira and the sculptor Francisco Simões, this park was conceived as a grand urban space where culture and nature intertwine.

The ambition was to create a unique place, a true tribute to national literature. Thus, this first phase laid the foundation for an innovative concept, transforming a green space into an open-air museum that celebrates Portuguese literary and artistic heritage, inviting contemplation and knowledge.

A Journey Through 20th-Century Poets

At the heart of this first phase, visitors will find a pathway dedicated to twenty prominent poets of the 20th century. Their works and legacies are immortalized through a collection of original sculptures created by various artists. Each sculpture is an artistic interpretation of a poet's life or work, inviting discovery and reflection.

This segment of the park is a true gallery where art and poetry meet in the open air. Visitors can stroll along the paths and encounter these sculptural pieces, which are integrated into the landscape and offer a unique perspective on some of the most important figures of contemporary Portuguese poetry.

With an initial area of ten hectares, Phase I of the Poets' Park offers an environment conducive to calm and contemplation.
