Vale Fundão Park is located in the eastern part of Lisbon. It is situated within the urban area known as Bairro das Amendoeiras, constituting a significant green space in this residential setting.
The area now occupied by the park was once part of a group of characteristic country estates (quintas) within the rural and recreational landscape of this Lisbon zone. With the advance of urbanization and the construction of new infrastructures from the 1940s onwards, a large portion of these lands was expropriated. Nevertheless, the area corresponding to Vale Fundão Park was successfully preserved, maintaining a link with the region's agricultural and natural past.
With an area of approximately 9 hectares, this park hosts a diversity of flora mainly composed of species that occur naturally in Portugal and are adapted to the Mediterranean climate. It is possible to observe different zones with distinct characteristics, such as a cluster of stone pines in the easternmost part or a meadow with a remarkable alignment of Lombardy poplars. The park also includes groves of ash trees and specimens of African tamarisks, oleanders, carob trees, wild olive trees, and tamarisks, which enrich its natural heritage.
Vale Fundão Park offers an environment of tranquility and contact with nature within Lisbon's urban context. Its size and the varied presence of plant species provide a space where visitors can enjoy moments of rest and landscape observation. It represents a point of interest for those seeking a green refuge in this part of the city, distinct from the daily pace.
