Located in the Olivais Sul area of Lisbon, the Silent Valley Park (Parque do Vale do Silêncio) is one of the most important green spaces in this part of the city. Bordered by thoroughfares such as Avenida de Berlim, the park offers a vast area of tranquility set within an essentially residential context.

A Green Space in the Heart of Olivais

Spanning approximately 9 hectares, this park stands out as a significant green lung in the Olivais area. Its initial conception, in the second half of the 20th century, aimed to provide residents of the new urban development with contact with nature and counteract the impact of nearby industrial areas.

Vision and Modern Design

The park's creation is part of the planning for the Olivais Sul urban development, following principles of 20th-century modern landscape architecture. The project emphasizes the integration of green areas into the urban landscape, considering the well-being of the population and the importance of contact with nature. The landscape architect Manuel Sousa da Câmara played a significant role in designing the park's planting plan.

Landscape Design Features

The park's design features a crescent shape, with its densely wooded margins forming a kind of forest. One of the central elements is the vast lawn that occupies a large portion of its area. The main pedestrian path, partly flanked by a remarkable alignment of white poplars and black poplars, invites a contemplative stroll through the space.

The choice of vegetation, particularly native species, was made considering the terrain's morphology and the ecological conditions of each area, from the drier zones on the ridges to the more humid areas near existing watercourses.

Its paved paths are ideal for walking, running, or cycling, providing a gentle route through the green landscape.
