The Penhas do Marmeleiro Park is located in Murches, a locality in the municipality of Cascais, in the Carrascal de Alvide area. This park is situated on the eastern edge of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, benefiting from its natural surroundings. From this location, it is possible to enjoy a direct visual connection between the Sintra Mountains, the Ribeira das Vinhas stream, and the rock formations that give the park its name.
With an area of approximately four hectares, this space was designed to enhance contact with nature, taking advantage of the characteristics of its environment. The recovery project aimed to transform an area that had been affected by illegal dumping for some time. The intervention involved land shaping, the integration of stone clusters, covering with annual herbaceous species, and tree planting, resulting in a harmonious fusion of these materials with the natural landscape.
To facilitate the exploration of the park and the appreciation of its landscape, wooden platform walkways were implemented. These structures follow the natural slopes of the terrain, minimizing their effects and facilitating access to various areas where the landscape unfolds to the visitor. The walkways were designed to be used by both pedestrians and cyclists, creating a connection between the walking and cycling routes that extend from Cascais to the Sintra Mountains.
The Penhas do Marmeleiro Park offers a tranquil environment, ideal for leisure and direct contact with nature. It is an inviting place for walks or bike rides, nestled in an area that highlights the natural beauty of the region. Additionally, the park features a playground with a structure evoking a castle, providing a fun spot for children.
