Parque Tejo stretches along the riverside area of Lisbon, in the Parque das Nações (Park of Nations) area. This vast green space is located near the mouth of the Trancão River, offering a wide and unique perspective over the Tagus Estuary and the majestic Vasco da Gama Bridge. Its strategic position allows visitors to enjoy the proximity to the water, in contrast to the surrounding urbanization, creating a tranquil and inviting environment.
With a remarkable dimension of about ninety hectares, Parque Tejo is recognized as one of the capital's richest biodiversity areas, especially due to its direct connection to the Tagus waterline. It is a privileged location for observing estuary fauna, standing out as one of the best spots near Lisbon to observe various species of aquatic birds, such as waders, cormorants, herons, and, at times, flamingos. Walking along its paths, it is possible to fully experience nature, a true refuge for those seeking wildlife in the city.
The creation of Parque Tejo resulted from a significant landscape intervention, developed by the PROAP and George Hargreaves offices. This ambitious project, integrated into the context of Expo '98, transformed an area previously degraded by landfills and industrial activity into a green space of metropolitan relevance. The intention was to return a forgotten area to the city, shaping it for environmental education and leisure activities. The park's design is marked by the topographical modeling of the terrain, which establishes a three-dimensional and diverse landscape, with the creation of slopes and distinct vegetation zones, conceived to enhance the visual and ecological experience.
Parque Tejo is a space designed for everyone's enjoyment, inviting long and relaxing riverside strolls. Its vast expanse and integrated design allow for the practice of various outdoor activities, from walking to cycling, offering a network of paths that integrate with the landscape. It is a prime location to enjoy the vastness of the horizon and the serenity of the Tagus, making it ideal for those seeking a moment of tranquility or an open environment for physical activities.
